A drunken fool,
He had once gone to school.
Now a lawyer With a partner,
He thought he could never falter.
Then upon a girl, in a courtroom,
He did stumble ‑ & he longed to be her groom.
But her heart was taken,
And to his very soul, he was shaken.
But steadfastly he stood by her ‑
Promised he’d die for anyone, even her lover.
He hung his head & walked away ‑
While Lucy married Darney.
He lived with his alcohol ‑
Every now & then making a social call.
Lucy & Darney had a child,
She’s just like Lucy ‑ all tender & mild.
And they loved him.
As time went by life became
difficult, Darney grew in fame.
To Paris, Charles went for a friend ‑
Realizing it could be his end.
Defarge would try to destroy ‑
& Carton’s promise would be employed.
When the trial was on,
Manette sang an honest man’s song.
Carton felt he should fly ‑
But Darney was to die.
With honor & bravery in his last breath;
He in Darney’s place would taste death.
