I came across this article on Ars Technica about the Remote Code Exploit.
“MS08-067 was pushed out last night to Windows Update to resolve a remotely-exploitable RPC vulnerability. All versions of Windows (from 2000 SP4 to Vista/Server 2008) are affected, and all versions prior to Vista and Server 2008 are suspectible to attack through unauthenticated connections.
The off-cycle release is motivated the fact that trojans exploiting the vulnerability have been found in the wild, and by the potential this flaw has for a worm-based attack. Since RPC runs on every Windows machine, this vulnerability could have the same impact as the Nimda and Code Red worms of the early 2000s.”
