I have to admit that I have not posted enough about Creative Commons. I received an eMail in my inbox today, the Commoner Newsletter and the author refers to Mr. Lessig’s presentation at TED.

In the presentation he discusses the stifling of creative thought and the anti-user generated content movement by corporations. He emphasizes the importance of letting ourselves interpret our surroundings and the events that we are living through via mixing media.

Check it out here.

So, I was listening to Net@Night with Leo and Amber this morning and they did an interview with the CEO [I think] of Disqus [pronounced discuss]. This is a commenting add-in primarily for blogs. This is a plug-in and takes very little time to install.

There is only 1 part that I didn’t understand and if I had not listened to Leo talk about his install, I am not sure that I would have made the correct selection. The second radio button in the Disqus options allows you to keep all previous comments and insert Disqus for all your new comments.

I have added it here at IronWil in hopes that as my site grows it will add value for commenter’s and other readers. The concept is that the reader carries their own comments across several blogs and websites. If the site goes away your comments are preserved with your Disqus profile. You can attach it to your Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Delicious, Flickr, or Tumblr account. Disqus also provides/allows users to put up video comments, which I think is very cool!

I am looking forward to using it and seeing how well it works. If you want to hear the NetCast, get it here.

2007 Audio & Video

Every year a wonderful event happens, Black Hat Briefings & Trainings. If you can’t afford the cost, like I can’t, the audio and video files for Black Hat USA 2007 are available via iTunes. There you will also find the last two years [I think]. I have downloaded and listened to all of 2006 and have been anticipating the release of this years recordings. One day, this n00b will get to Vegas or DC for this event.

There are about 89 of these lectures/presentations. I will admit that I don’t always get everything and if it is boring to me – I will skip it. This is not light stuff – some of the material is very technical, out right funny, and much of it is very educational.

2008 DC, Europe, & USA

You can now register for each of these events. I will warn you that BH:DC is started today!!! Which means, I am a day late on getting this information out.

Now, you still have plenty of time to register for Europe & USA.

Early registration is closed for Europe, however you can still register.

Early registration for USA [Las Vegas] is open until the 1st of May.

If you can afford the cost, GO! I would be there in a heartbeat [considering everything is good at home]. The main page for Black Hat can be found here.
