Okay, I totally bombed the first round and Snow Leopard kicked my crack. I made a huge error in my back-ups and so I couldn’t just roll back to Leopard. I had only been backing up my Home Folder. The good thing is that MANY Mac Apps can be installed and then the Application Support folder can be dropped into [Drive Name]/Library/Application Support/[App Folder] & voilá the App comes back to life with all your data.

This does not happen with every App and so, I would recommend doing full back-ups and not making the same mistake that I made. I am about 90% of the way there. I have to manually add my calendar items back into iCal and I have to figure out a way to recover my data from my Treo without losing it. Because of the 1Password problem, I am having to go back through and add items to 1Password manually, but that is less of a problem than the passwords I didn’t have in the HTML file I exported about 2 weeks ago.

So, the #1 lesson from this experience? Make sure you have good back-ups before you monkey with your system. Man, what a bad example to set . . . well, I ain’t perfect.

A few months ago I started doing research for a new Bluetooth headset. My first was a Plantronics Explorer 320, I got it two years ago when I got my Treo 700p. It worked very well until I broke the ear hook off playing on the floor with my boy. I went a long time without getting a new one because of the cost. I just couldn’t justify the cost.

I have struggled in the decision of getting a new one. At first I was not sure what I wanted, but then in my research I came across the Z9. This headset is small enough to fit into my fifth pants pocket [or change pocket]. It can connect to three different devices, it has memory banks. I have paired mine with my Treo, my Mac, and my wife’s phone. I have had a little trouble with getting it to connect with my iMac every time. I have not had any trouble with the phones.

The physical features include a thin clear plastic ear hook, which works with my glasses, and a small ear bud that rests on the inside on my ear. The main body might be an inch long and half an inch wide and maybe a 1/4 of an inch thick. The Z9 has three buttons, on/off and volume up and down, there are many different button combinations that will allow you to perform different actions, including turning of the blue flashing light. Another small feature is a shirt clip on the inside of the headset.

It comes with two charging cords, one for USB and one for the wall socket. The cable connects into the back of the ear piece between the main body and the bud.

I give it 4.5 stars.

Last week [or the week before] on my way home with a co-worker we were trying to navigate the city and highways. I pulled out my Palm and learned that wap.google.com(1) is a working website and one can download Google Maps for their palm! I was very happy with this because when we are on the road I can check the traffic. I also have a handy map so that I can’t “get lost” – as long as I know where I am<grin>. I also don’t have to ask for directions>.</grin>

This weekend, my wife and I met a friend for dinner and a movie, she wanted to double check directions back to her neck of the woods. In about 3 minutes I had our current location up and showed her how to get back to the Beltway. It was quite the empowering experience. Needless to say she was on her way and I was elated that my recent find worked to her advantage.

I am not sure how many different types of SmartPhones Google supports with their WAP(1) service, but I am glad they support the Treo!

I have been listening [and reading] to a lot of speculation out there in the blogo’media sphere (1) about what the new iteration of the iPod will be. I think that MediaLoper has gotten it right. I mean to say that if I were behind it, this would be it – except that there would also have to be the 30/80/120 GB hard drive models.

MediaLoper makes some valid points about how powerful of a media player the iPhone sans the “phone” would be! Personally, I am holding out for a 30/80 GB hard drive version of the iPhone because then I can squeeze all my portable needs into one device and that would slim down what I have to carry with me 24/7. No, really my Treo 700p and my iPod are with me all the time, with one exception – when I have to charge them.

This change in the iPod would really add to it’s aura of being the #1 digital music player on the planet! Many complain about the lack of WiFi and other features that they would like to have included in their iPod. This could be Apple‘s next move and maybe they are just waiting for the Christmas Season to begin, I sure don’t know. I do, however, hope that this is where Apple is going with the next generation of the iPod
