I recently downloaded Touch Mouse [Free] & Air Mouse Pro [1.99$] from the App Store trying to avoid buying the new Logitech Performance Mouse MX with the Darkfield Laser.

But so far, failure.

I have used both of these Apps on my iPhone and they are nice on the couch and I will probably set them up with the iMac and use that when we are watching TV shows or movies from the couch. It is not a great tool for sitting and working with my MacBook like I would a mouse.

I have to say that for a standard mouse replacement this blows … big time!!!

I think that it will only fit that remote use like the Mac Mini I keep thinking about for my media center.

I recently joined the iPhone community with the expiration of mobile contracts. I am extremely happy with my new hand-held computer!

I have 1 major problem and two real irritations. First Bluetooth, I have a BlueAnt X5i that works better with my iPhone than my MacBook [13" Black Late 2007]. I have discovered that my iPhone has a bit of a problem. If I let the headset die while connected to the phone I lose all sound. I turned the Bluetooth off and back on then off again, but that didn’t work. I had to power-cycle the device [No, I didn't try a soft reset which might have worked]. I had to run the battery down before I got the audio back. It was really annoying.

Second, I was using my headset to listen to music in the office and turned off the Bluetooth [on the phone] before turning off the headset. I lost all audio again, I was frustrated; but then reconnected them and I was able to listen to the audio through the X5i. I then turned it off and then turned off the Bluetooth [on the phone]. My audio returned.

Sheesh, can’t they just release the audio channel when Bluetooth is turned off???

Okay, this relates to both iTunes and the iPhone. Why does the software not remember my Account Password?!?!? I don’t understand what is wrong or not working in iTunes or the iPhone App [Store]? Why does the software not save the password even when the check box is selected in iTunes and why does the iPhone App [Store] or iTunes App. This seems pretty simple to me, it is MY phone and MY account, if content is downloaded it is going to be . . . where . . . on my iPhone!!! I tried several tricks from The MacCast and still iTunes doesn’t save my password for downloading new Apps or Digital content.

I realize that Apple & Mr. Jobs have their way of doing things; however, this doesn’t meet the simplicity rule that Apple likes to apply to almost everything else they do. I really like the simplicity model that is used in many things; yet, this seems like something that would make sense. Make it a feature and allow users to turn it off and on, so I can decide if I want to save the password or not.

Oh, yeah and don’t forget to make a check box area for Audiobooks so that I can decide what Audiobooks I put on my iPhone or iPod!!! Seriously, I have a dozen Audiobooks on my phone & I know that I can delete them from iTunes; but I would rather just control them like other media on my devices.

No, I still love my iPhone and am happy with it . . . let’s keep it simple Apple!!!

This rant is now over.

I am a pretty easing going person until someone decides to fire my temper up.

Today that ‘person’ would the the Staff and Company Comcast. I will tell you a story. Last year, my wife and I moved into a new apartment [temporary] in the basement of Grandmother, she is a sweet kind lady. She had a cable tap already and so I figured we could save 45$ a month by just getting internet with Comcast. As apposed to getting a phone line and DSL. I talked to the sales rep and I could use my 3yr old cable box from my previous provider. Sweet, save a little money.

December, somewhere around the 1st, I called to have my service terminated on the 15th of December because we were moving again. I though, good all done, they will send me a credit for my over payment and it will be all good.

Today, I am livid! Oh boy, I have been hung up on THREE times this morning and it was not even 8:30AM. The last person I talked to told me that I couldn’t use another cable providers box and the 48.66$ bill was because I owed them a cable box. Wait, there is no rental fee on any of my bills for one – head scratching. “You will have to call Comcast Credit”. So, I call Comcast Credit before 8:30AM and I am sent to vMail because apparently they are already bogged down with people calling them with problems.

I just don’t understand it, I was even polite and not sarcastic – once [meaning not once and not more than once]! Which, if you know me will be hard to believe. I am appalled at their customer service.

As side note, I could never get logged into their billing website or my eMail/personal account. I couldn’t even setup electronic billing!!! My landlord would bring the bill down when it came despite the fact I had tried to get it sent to my mailing address.

Com-CRAP-stic! They need some Charim in the soft jumbo roll to clean up that crap!

Yesterday, in my office we were talking about a friends new PC, she switched to Vista because her laptops monitor died. In the course of the conversation, I mentioned what I felt was the biggest mistake that people make when they buy a new computer. Yes, you know what I am talking about because of the title; but you may be scratching your head as to why?

When anyone goes to Dell, HP, Gateway, or whomever; they are always presented with a default memory option. This is always way to low for what many users really need. You are now wondering why, right?

Microsoft recommends 128mb of RAM for Windows XP. I emphasize the minimum because this is what you need to turn the computer on and have it load XP. This does not mean that you can run programs with any kind of speed or efficiency. I recommend that you use 1 gigabyte of RAM if you are going to be using eMail and the Internet. If you are going to install games, Adobe products, do some audio recording – you will need more. And I mean 2 gigabytes of RAM [total].

I have an older machine that has a 2 gigahertz (GHz) AMD processor with 2 gigabytes (GB) of RAM. I run 2 Anti-Virus programs, 2 chat clients, Weather Watcher, and a few more programs in the system tray. I am now running iTunes, Firefox, Thunderbird, Writer, & 3 Miranda windows, and I have no visible slow down to my system. I can play Call of Duty 2 while I run Thunderbird, my chat clients & music player. I even have memory left for BitTorrent.

Okay why? Because I can, that is why. The cost for his hardware was not much, but I have to confess I didn’t buy top of the line hardware either. My 256mb video card is the most expensive piece of hardware in my machine. I have been using the same beige case since 2003 and I still have a few other pieces of hardware that are leftovers.

I expect that with Vista, one will need to start with 2 gigs of RAM and make sure that they have expansion slots for 2 more. I know they say that you can run 1 gig of RAM, but they also tell us we won’t have the Aero Glass interface, which looked pretty cool in Vista RC1 [or Release Client 1]. In fact, if you have, or are willing to spend, the money when you buy your system, I would tell you to get the 4 gig of RAM right off.

WHAT!?! Spend an extra 200 to 400$ just for memory!!!
YES!
Why? longevity & the health of your system over all. You will have the extra memory on hand and be able to use instead of trying to find the right memory later.

The company I work for right now provided a minimum system bought 3 or 4 years ago & it has 512mb of RAM in it. I get online doing research, with Outlook [MS' eMail Client] open, and I get a large attachment and my systems hangs. Just for a few seconds to a minute or two and then I get to sit there and wait. That drives me crazy!!!

Don’t hate Windows because it is slow, upgrade your memory.
